Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson - born Jacqueline Luesby to Chris Watson and Jacqueline Luesby, two British lawyers - was born on July 8, 1989 in Paris. She moved to Oxfordshire at the age of five and enrolled in an academy called the Dragon School. From the age of six Emma was aware that she wanted to be an actress and for a number of years she studied at the Oxford branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts a part-time theater school, where she learned the art of acting and dancing. In a school play and an Stagecoach production, Emma was the lead at the age 10 and performed. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2000) the film adaptation of J.K. Rowling's bestselling British novel was first cast in 1999. Emma was spotted by Emma's Oxford Theatre teacher. David Heyman informed Emma, Daniel Radcliffe, and Rupert Grint after auditions of 8. They were cast as three leads Hermione Gringer Harry Potter Ron Weasley. Emma's first screen appearance took place with Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone's release in 2001. It broke all records for opening day and weekend sales, and it was the top-grossing 2001 film. Critics have praised both the film as well as the performance of the three young actors. The Daily Telegraph, a well-read British paper, praised her for her exceptional performance. Later Emma was nominated for five awards for her performance in the film and was awarded the Young Artist Award for Leading Young Actress in the Feature Film.
